Blood drive set for August 19 in Decatur

— The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive at the Simmons Foods offices, located at 250 Main Street in Decatur, from 9 a.m.

until noon, and from 4 to 7 p.m., Aug 19.

Locally, the Red Cross has a two-day supply of blood, with O and B type blood at lower levels, according to a releasefrom the American Red Cross.

"People with O and B blood types are especially needed right now, and new donors are always welcome," the release states.

Donors need to be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be a minimum of 17 years of age - or 16 in Arkansas with a signed American Red Cross parental consent form.

Accident victims, cancer patients, people with sickle cell anemia, burn victims, surgery patients, children with leukemia and many others are in need of blood products.

"Your donation could make the difference to them and their families; it might even save someone's life!" the release states.
