Betty Jean Cox
Betty Jean Cox, 88, of Bella Vista, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at her home.
She was born on April 13, 1921 in Oklahoma to Perry Carlile and Mary Hill Carlile.
She moved to Bella Vista 24 years ago from Oklahoma. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista.
She enjoyed her family, golf, bridge, traveling and Tole Painting. She was a member of the Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin Giles Cox of Bella Vista; son, Charles Lynn Cox of Bella Vista; daughter, Kathy Jo Cox of Bella Vista; sisters, Dixie Odell of Houston, Texas, Maxine Chappell, of Denver, Colo., Lucille Herber of Okmulgee, Okla., and Lois Keep of Riverside, Calif.; and grandchildren, Lucas, Krystal, and Jody; and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Aug. 4 in the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, with the Rev. Sara Bainbridge officiating.
Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice on behalf of Betty Cox.

Doyal Ray Murray, 70, of Pineville, Mo., died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his home. He was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Wayton, to Claude Ray Murray and Freda May Vaughn Murray.
He had lived in this area most of his life and was a fruit farmer.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Jean Murray; his father, Claude Ray Murray; an infant daughter, Coalena Murray; and a sister, Verla May Cartwright.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Tijuana Cooley and Adam Cooley of Monroe, Mich., and Shirlyn Lanham and Mike Lanham of Pineville; three sons and daughters-inlaw, Tony Murray and Joy Murray, and Wade Murray and Peggy Murray, all of Bella Vista, and John Hutchins and Carol Hutchins of Lowell; his mother, Freda Murray of Parthenon; brothers, Carl Murray of Hiwasse, and Dwight Murray of Harrison; sisters, Leta Willis of Wayton, Charlene Dixon of Rogers, and Susie Riddell of Boat Mountain; 17 grandchildren; and 17 greatgrandchildren.
Graveside services were July 30 at the Union Hill Cemetery in Parthenon, with Bobby Young officiating.

Betty Ann Smykil passed away peacefully at the Hummingbird House Assisted Living Facility at Sierra Vista, Ariz., Thursday July 17, 2009.
Betty was born May 27, 1921, in Lorain, Ohio, to Dr. Lawrence Carey Lahm and Corinne Lahm.
After graduation from high school, Betty joined the Marine Corps and served until earning her Honorable Discharge in 1946.
While serving as a Marine in 1944, she met and married Kenneth Smykil, who was also serving as a Marine, at Camp Pendelton, Calif. Betty and Kenneth were married for 61 years until his death in 2006.
Following their military service, the couple moved first to Ohio and then to Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where they lived for many years while Kenneth taught instrumental music and Betty worked in an insurance company office. In 1985 they retired to Bella Vista, where they enjoyed an active retirement. In 2002, Betty and Ken moved to Sierra Vista due to Ken's failing health and to be close to their daughter.
Betty is survived by her only daughter, Nancy Berns, her grandson, Adam Berns, and her brother, Bert Lahm of Lakeside, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and her sister, Mary Jane Thieben.
A memorial service was held at the Southeast Arizona Veteran's Memorial Cemetary July 25.
Arrangements were handled by Hatfield Mortuary.
