Senator Hendren Says New Annual Legislative Session Will Be Tested

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

— State Senator Kim Hendren, R-Gravette, is taking a hopefor-the-best attitude about how a new provision of the state constitution will serve the state.

Hendren was opposed to a 2008proposal,nowenacted,that changed biannual state legislative sessions to annual ones.

The new amendment will have state lawmakers working on the state budget early in 2010 and could provide a good test of how well the proposal will work, said Hendren, who opposed annual sessions and campaigned against the idea last year.

"Even though I was opposed to annual sessions, this is certainly going to give us a chance to look at it, because we may have to make some hard choices come January of next year," Hendren said. "We'll have to see what happens."
