City tax revenue down again

sales and use tax receipts were

again down for the month of

July, according to the latest fig

ures published in the August is

sue of City and Town Magazine,

the official publication of the

Arkansas Municipal League.

Gentry's municipal levy receipts for July were $52,553, down from $80,097 last year.

County sales and use taxes for Gentry during July were $40,666, down from $43,420 last year.

Decatur saw an increase in city receipts for July, from $11,355 in 2008 to $14,325 this year. County receipts fell slightly. July 2009 receipts were $21,936, compared to $23,421 in 2008.

Highfill also saw declines.

Highfill's municipal levy receipts for July were $60,484, down from $93,883 a year ago.

Highfill special aviation tax levy receipts were down to $16,941 from $47,936 in July of 2008.

County sales and use taxes for July were $10,918, down from 11,657 a year ago.

Springtown's municipal tax receipts were $306, up from $196 last July. County tax receipts were $1,903, down from $2,032 in July 2008.

As a result of the declining income, most municipalities are tightening their belt and making some cuts. Budget planning for next year also reflects the declines in revenue.
