Gentry man arrested for stealing two rifles

— Police arrested Jason James, 35, of Siloam Springs, August 12, on charges of breaking into his father's home office and stealing guns.

Jason James is alleged, according to police reports, to have kicked in a door at the home of his father, Michael James, taking two rifles and a check from a checkbook. Jason allegedly then used the check to buy an article at Auto Zone and returned the article for a cash refund. The breakin allegedly took place on or about July 26.

According to reports, Jason took a bolt-action Stevens 25-06 rifle with a Redfield illuminator scope and a Remington .270 caliber rifle with a Simmons scope. He allegedly tried to sell them, along with other guns, to another man - named only as Larry - at the Siloam Springs Value Inn.

According to police reports, Jason James allegedly admitted to his father that he broke into his father's house and took the guns but said a Mexican drug dealer made him do it.

On at least three other occasions, Jason James allegedly took guns, tools, saddles and items from his father. The value of the two rifles was stated to be about $2,000. The value of other items taken was also stated to be about $2,000 total, according to the reports.

Jason James was arrested on a felony warrant for theft of property valued between $500 and $2,500. He was being held in the Benton County Jail yet on Friday, with bond set at $15,000.
