GRAVETTE — Persons born after December 31, 1968, must complete a Hunter Education course and carry a valid hunter education card to hunt in Arkansas.

Children under 16 may hunt without hunter education as long as they are under the direct supervision of an adult who is at least 21 years old and has a valid hunting license.

A free hunter education training course will be taught at the new Hobbs State Park - Conservation Area's visitor center east of Rogers this Saturday, August 28. The course begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Instruction is 10 hours long plus breaks. Steve Dunlap, Education Coordinator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will present the program.

There is no specific age requirement to enroll in hunter education; however, the educational material is based on a sixth-grade reading level. Arkansas recognizes hunter education cards from other states. The Arkansas hunter education program is recognized in all states as well as in Canada and Mexico.
