‘Christmas to Remember’ theme for annual Gentry parade and entertainment

Wednesday, December 2, 2009

— It will be “A Christmas to Remember” on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the annual Gentry Christmas celebration sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce.

Local talent will begin performing on a stage in front of the Chamber Building at 212 East Main at 3 p.m. Arkansas Kids will follow at 4 p.m., and at 5 p.m. the Mennonite youth choir will sing.

While these performances are happening outside, Santa will be inside by the fireplace, passing out treats and hearing Christmas wishes from the children. Parents are urged to come early so they will have plenty of time to talk to Santa and take pictures if they wish. The treat bags are sponsored again this year by McKee Baking Company.

The Chamber will also be serving hotdrinks and cookies during the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. time slot. Many other businesses will be hosting an open house or will be open for Christmas shopping all day.

At 6:30 p.m., the annual parade, with the theme “A Christmas to Remember” will travel down Main Street. Awards of $100 will be presented to winning floats for the best theme; best music, best lighting. The best overall (combination of the three categories) float will win $200. These awards will be presented in Gentry Bucks.

All Gentry businesses are also urged to participate in the best Christmas decoration contest. A $100 award will be presented. Businesses will be judged on Dec. 12. Please call the chamber office at 736-2358 before Dec. 12 if you decorate and wish to be included in the judging. Government offices, schools and churches are also eligible for this contest.
