JBU Announces Candlelight Service

— John Brown University will hold its 68th annual Christmas Season Candlelight Service next Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, December 10, 11 and 12.

The service will be held in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the JBU campus. All performances are free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the service to begin at 7.

There will be traditional melodies, time-honored classics and inspirational readings with special feature selections by the Cathedral Choir.

Seating is on a first come basis with early arrival encouraged.

Because of the worshipful atmosphere, guests are requested to consider not bringing young children, to refrain from flash photographs and to turn off cell phones.

Care And Share Will Host Food Drive To Help Replenish Its’ Food Pantry

Care and Share in Gravette announces it is hosting a nonperishable food drive for its patrons, said Miriam Rowe, spokesperson for Care and Share.

“Any customer who brings a minimum of two nonperishable items to either Care and Share store will be given a 50 cent coupon to be used that day at either store,” Rowe said. Limit one coupon per family per day, she added.

Care and Share store on Main Street is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Specialty Store, which is located on Highway 59 south, is open each Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The stores will remain open through December 19 and “We encourage all our customers to help us fill the pantry in December,” Rowe said.

First Christian Cookie Walk Is Scheduled This Sunday Afternoon

Ladies of the First Christian Church in Gravette will hold their first Cookie Walk this Sunday afternoon, December 6, starting at 12:30 p.m. the church fellowship hall.

Persons will receive a two pound holiday-decorated container which they can fill from an array of homemade holiday cookies. The cost is just $10.

“The walk will end at 3 p.m. but when the cookies are gone we will close, so come early for a good selection,” the ladies said.

Methodist Rummage Sale This Week Will Benefit Local Families

An “inside rummage sale” to benefit local families during the holidays will be held this Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5, at the United Methodist Church in Gravette.

The sale will be held both days in the fellowship hall at the church located at Akron and Second Avenue N.W. in Gravette.

“We thank you for supporting the sale as we hope to make the holidays brighter,” said Kimberley Gibson, organizer of the project.

Historic Preservation Tax Credits Are Available

A new state tax credit of 25% of the expenses on rehabilitating an historic structure in Arkansas is available, according to the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program Director Frances McSwain.
