GHS Band Members Take All-Region Orchestra Honors In Fort Smith Competition

— Three members of the Gravette High School band recently qualified for the North Arkansas All-Region Orchestra.

Jamie Frey, Jesse Owens and Daniel Poemoceah, all percussionists, received honors at a clinic and concert held at Southside High School in Fort Smith.

The Gravette band provided three of the five percussionists for the selectorchestra’s performance.

The orchestra is comprised of orchestra and band students from the northern half of the state, explained Gravette Band Director Mike Johnson.

“The students must try out by playing prepared music for the judges as well as being required to sight read music,” Johnson said. “This is the second yearin a row that Gravette has qualified students for this outstanding orchestra. Our congratulations to them for their achievement,” he declared.

Twelve different school districts, including Rogers, Bentonville, Heritage, Farmington and Fort Smith Northside and Southside, were represented in the symphonic orchestra.
