Job fair coming to Siloam Springs

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

— More than 1,000 jobs will be sought after during the upcoming job fair Dec. 18. The third annual job fair sponsored by Northwest Arkansas Certified Development Company will be hosted at Community Christian Fellowship Church at Lincoln and Main streets. The biggest job seeker at the fair will be the U.S. Census Bureau. The agency is looking to hire 1,000 people for the 2010 census, said Rose Sparrow, resource specialist for Northwest Arkansas Certified Development Company. About 25 businesses and agencies have committed to be at the fair, so far, Sparrow said. Before the job fair, businesses will have the opportunity to tell potential employees about their company and what they are looking for in an employee. “This will allow us to bring all of the businesses together,” Sparrow said. What jobs are open and training necessary to qualify for them will be available, she said.

This will be from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 18.

Lunch break will be from noon to 2:15 p.m.

Lunch will not be provided.

The job and informational fair will run from 2:15 to 5 p.m.

Aside from the U.S. Census Bureau, the following are some of the businesses and agencies that will attend:

• Pre-paid Legal

• McKee Foods Corp.

• John Brown University

• Arkansas Job Corps

• Department of Human Services, Transitional Employment Assistance

• Department of Workforce Services, Unemployment Insurance and Employment Services

• Helping Hands

• Tractor Supply Co.

About 50 companies and 300 people participated in the previous job fair of Northwest Arkansas Certified Development Company, Sparrow said.
