— Gentry teams split a win and a loss in play against Greenland on Friday night.

The Lady Pioneers held off Greenland’s Lady Pirates and finished the contest with a sound victory at Gentry’s basketball coronation games, with a final score of Gentry 47, Greenland 35.

In the first quarter, things were not looking good for the Lady Pioneers, with the Lady Pirates more than doubling Gentry’s points on the scoreboard. But things turned around in the second quarter, with Gentry coming from a 11-5 deficit to a 17-16 lead at the half.

In the second half, it was all Gentry, with the Lady Pioneers adding to their lead each quarter.

Terra Jones led the Lady Pioneers with 14 points, followed by Jessica Jech with 9,and Courtney Millsap, Kendra Boyd, Courtney Folker and Brittany Green with 5 points each.

The Lady Pioneers, now 7-1, were to play in Westville, Olka., Tuesday night, after press time.

Pioneers 55, Pirates 58

The Pioneers began well against the Greenland Pirates Friday night, with a 20-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. But that lead was narrowed to a single bucket by the half, with Gentry up 28-26.

The Pirates outscored the Pioneers in both quarters of the second half, finishing the close game ahead of the Pioneers by a score of 58-55.

Kevin Scherer picked up 22 of Gentry’s points, with James Wiand picking up 14, Joe Morris 9, and Aaron Dalla Rosa 8.

The Pioneers, now 7-2, were also set to play a non-league game Tuesday against the Westville, Okla., Yellowjackets.
