Talks on Bulldog Days 2010, ATV Rodeo continue

— Parks and Recreation Committee members met Monday night to continue forming plans for next summers Bulldog Days and ATV Rodeo.

Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman Trip Lapham reported that the newly formedsub-committee, which consists of three Chamber of Commerce members and three Parks and Recreation Committee members, met for the first time last week. The subcommittee was designed to work out the details of holding the Decatur Barbecue and Bulldog Days back-to-back the weekend of Aug. 7-9.

Lapham said the sub-committee made a lot of proposals, but didn’t make any decisions. Ike Owens explained the subcommittee meeting was an opportunity to throw out ideas and questions.

Parks and Recreation Committee members also decided to move forward with arranging fora miniature train to give rides on Aug. 8 and 9. The train owners are available on those dates and have $1 million in liability insurance, Lapham reported.

James Tucker suggested asking Tired Iron of the Ozarks tractor club officials if they would bring their “people movers” to ferry festival goers from the parking areato Veterans Park.

The subcommittee will meet again on Jan. 7, 2010. The Parks and Recreation Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Jan. 25, 2010, and will focus primarily on discussing plans for the ATV Rodeo. Community members are welcomed to join the committee.
