— Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Highfill Council

The Highfill Town Council will hold its next regular meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the community building. The next planning commission meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Highfill Community Building.

Saddle Up for St. Jude

A Saddle Up for St. Jude trail ride, sponsored by Cowboy Crossroads in Christ is set for Nov. 7, on Martin Pedro Road, the second drive on the left south of U.S. Highway 412. Check-in is at 8 a.m. and the ride begins at 10 a.m. The cost to ride is $25, with T-shirts being $10. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m., with an auction at 2:30. Proceeds will be used to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For more information, call Tom at 752-3403.

Senior Parent Night

Senior Parent Night will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Gentry High School Library. Mrs. Pipkin will give a presentation on college and career preparation, federal student aid and scholarships. All seniors and parents are welcome to attend.

Pie Auction

Falling Springs Church will be holding an auction of pies, cakes and crafts, with a cake walk, to support a community Christmas fund at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, at the church (north on WPA Road and west on Falling Springs Road). Rob Hopkins will be the auctioneer. All are welcome.

Lodge to hold chili supper

The Gentry Masonic Lodge will hold a chili supper from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 20. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and are available from lodge members and at the door Nov. 20. All proceeds from the supper will go toward scholarships to graduating Gentry High School seniors.

Moms in Touch

The Gentry group of Moms In Touch International meets to pray for their children and the schools they attend on Wednesdays from 8 to 9 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gentry. It is a non-denominational community prayer group and everyone is invited to attend. This group has been meeting for many years and would love to see new moms involved. Highfill Fire Department

The Highfill Fire Department is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary with a special catered dinner on Saturday, Dec. 5. All Highfill fire department personnel, past and present, along with their families, are invited to the event. Those planning to attend are asked to R.S.V.P. by Nov. 25 so that arrangements for the dinner can be made. For more information, call Gary Holland at 601-3329 or Heather Holland at 619-8020. The Courier-Journal is asking fire fighters to share any stories and photos of historical significance for an upcoming article on the department and its 30-year history. Stories and photos may be shared directly with the newspaper or by giving them to Gary Holland.

Gentry Food Bank

A food bank is available at the Gentry United Methodist Church, on South Collins Avenue and First Street, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Food donations - dry goods - can be made at any time by calling Norma Burden at 736-8820. The food bank currently does not have facilities to store frozen or refrigerated items.

GHS Band Boosters

The Gentry High School Band Boosters meet at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the high school band room.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7 p.m. during the winter months. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right. Gentry Senior Activity Center

The Gentry Senior Activity Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, in the renovated building on Main Street, just east of the public library. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378.

Pickin’ in the Park

Pickin’ in the Park is held at 6:30 p.m., the last Saturday of each month, at the Gentry Senior Activity Center. Musicians and music lovers are invited to come and join in or just sit back and enjoy the music.

Singing services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry on Falling Springs Road.

Address markers

Gentry Fire Department has reflective address markers available to help responders locate a home or apartment quickly in the event of an emergency. The reflective address markers are only $10 and are made to last for years. For more information, call 228-0694. The signs are also available from the Highfill Volunteer Fire Department. Those in the Highfill Fire District may obtain the signs for $10 by calling 736-5711 or stopping at the Highfill City Hall.

Head Start

Free childcare services are available to qualifying parents. For information, call Gentry Head Start at 736-2406.
