GRAVETTE — The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club was held Wed., October 28, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center with three members and one guest, Jean Brawner, present.

President Jeanne Hubbard led the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag and the song, “Button Up Your Overcoat”. Her devotion was a prayer read at a J.G.T. Club meeting in 2006.

Susan Holland answered roll call with a reading on “The Funnier Side of Illness”. Eda Montag told of a church experience similar to the parable of the loaves and the fishes and Jeanne read a joke about a funeral for a homeless man.

Susan gave a recap of the September meeting. There was no treasurer’s report. Jeanne reported that the club’s monetary gift had been delivered and the recipient was very grateful.

Members voted to change the date of the next meeting to Thursday, November 19, and join in the Senior Center’s Thanksgiving dinner. Mary Griffin will give the program.

Jeanne preceded the potluck meal with a toast to ships, including the most important, friendship. Those present enjoyed beef stew, Mexican cornbread, broccoli casserole and Halloween cupcakes.

CASA Will Hold Christmas Event For Foster Children

More than 300 children in the Northwest Arkansas area will spend Christmas in foster care this year. CASA of NWA, with generous donations from community individuals and corporations, is working to insure that these abused and neglected children will have a special Christmas.

CASA of Northwest Arkansas will host the third annual Christmas party for all foster children and their foster families from Washington, Benton, Carroll and Madison Counties. Approximately 320 foster children and their families will visit with Santa, participate in arts and crafts projects, have a chance to win door prizes and enjoy holiday food and fun.

Many companies andindividuals provided gifts, food and monetary help for this event, including Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club, Tyson, Bedford Photo, BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) and RU4C) Riders United for Children), to name a few.
