New tire shop open in Decatur

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

— A new business, Decatur Tire and Auto, recently opened on Main Street here.

The shop offers new and used tires, tire repair, oil changes, vehicle maintenance, diagnostics and brake jobs, according to owner Jason Blackmon.

Blackmon is a familiar face in the community. He grew up in the area and served as a Gravette police officer for two years and then as a Decatur police officer for three years before deciding to start his own business.

“I’ve always wanted to be in business for myself,” he said.

Blackmon explained that he wanted a business where he could still serve the community.

“I know a lot of people in town, and I enjoy working with them. I’ve lived here all my life,” he said, “I wanted to stay in the area for opening my business. I love this area, this is my home.”

Blackmon said his father used to own a tire shop, where he often helped out and gained expeirance.

“I enjoy tire work and lighter mechanic work,” he said.

If Decatur Tire and Auto doesn‘t have a tire in stock, it can be ordered and will come in the next day, or the same day if it is ordered on Monday, Blackmon said.

Blackmon also said that all of his work is guaranteed.

“I’ll try to be as fair as I can and keep prices bearable for people in this tough economy,” he said.

In the future, Blackmon hopes to build his business and share it with his two sons. His two boys already love to work with him in the shop, he said.

“I want to make it a family business,” he said.
