GRAVETTE — Collection of magazines to send to service personnel in Afghanistan is underway, a project started by Charlene Burbee of Bella Vista.
A large box is in place at the Lowe’s store in Bella Vista, the collection point for any kind of magazine “except pornography,” Burbee said. Crossword puzzles, Snodoku and other similar paperbacks will also be accepted. “NO hardback books” since they weigh too much in shipping.
Collection of the magazines will continue untilDecember 15.
Burbee said a large part of her motivation was her nephew who just returned home from Iraq. “He said how much he appreciated receiving packages from home.” Burbee can be reached at 531-1163.
More than 125 boxes of food, reading material and personal hygiene items have been sent to troops overseas by The Weekly Vista staff in Bella Vista during the past two years. Postage has been paid by personal donations.
