Gentry overpowers Decatur on the court

— The Gentry Pioneers dominated the court Friday night in a decisive 85-32 victory over the Decatur Bulldogs.

The Pioneers jumped ahead in the opening minutes of the game at Gentry High School and never looked back.

Gentry’s center, Kevin Scherer, led in scoring for the Pioneers with 24 points against the Bulldogs, making 12 out of 16 field-goal attempts. Robbie White scored 12 points; James Wiand, 11; and Eathan Ramsey, 10.

High scorer for Decatur was Hunter Beal with15 points. Eric Thompson had seven for the night and Trent Arnold picked up six.

The Pioneers were to face Lincoln Tuesday night (after press time). Gentry defeated Lincoln 62-57 in a close game on Nov. 14 at the Pioneer Tip-Off Classic.

The Lady Pioneers outscored the Lady Bulldogs two-to-one on Friday in a 66-33 win.

Kourtney Millsap led the Lady Pioneers on the scoreboard, picking up 13 points from five two-point field goals and a three-pointer. Terra Jones added another 10 points for the Gentry girls, and Kelsea Whitten sunk two three-pointers and a two-point goal against Decatur.

For Decatur, Kimmy Nelson picked up 17 points against Gentry. Tiffany Wright scored nine.

The Lady Pioneers were also scheduled to face Lincoln on Tuesday. They, too, defeated Lincoln during the Tip-Off Classic, by a score of 60-29.

Both Gentry teams went into Tuesday’s contest against Lincoln undefeated, 4-0.

Decatur faced Mountainburg on Monday, with the girls winning 44-41 and the boys losing 27-42. Tuesday’s scheduled game at Magazine was cancelled.
