Post Office Window Closes For Noon Hour

— It’s official. The clerk window at the Gravette Post Office will continue to be closed during the noon hour.

This updates a story that appeared in the News Herald last week that the noon closings would cease on October 1. That noon closing schedule had been in effect since August 10 to comply with a U. S. Postal Service Directive.

Information that a new directive, making the noon closing permanent, was not received by the News Herald in time for last week’s newspaper publication deadline.

Gravette Postmaster Gerald Garner said the new directive makes the noon closing permanent. It is one of several costcutting measures the postal department is taking to offset increasing deficits in the national operation.

Window hours at the Gravette office, Monday through Friday, will be from 9 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Gravette Post Office lobby will remain open 24/7 for the convenience of postal box patrons.

Post offices in Maysville and Hiwasse are open during the lunch hour; Sulphur Springs post office is closed during the noon hour.

Baseball Group Sets Meeting

The Gravette Baseball Association will hold their annual meeting Sunday, October 11, at 3 p.m. at the Civic Center with election of officers as the main agenda item.

Persons interested in board membership should attend.
