Phone And E-Mail Scam Advisory

Thursday, October 29, 2009

— Rogers Police issued warnings on two possible scams Monday, both asking for bank card numbers.

The first, according to a news release, involved an e-mail with the subject line “Customer Survey - Get $50 reward.” The e-mail included a survey but the survey ended with a request for the recipient’s Social Security number, card number, expiration date and ATM pin, according to police.

The second scam came in the form of a text message asking customers to update their debit card information. The recipient is asked to call an 800 number, where the potential victim is asked to input his or her pin number.

“If you receive similar messages, keep in mind that legitimate companies and banks do not conduct business in this manner.”

The department asked residents to avoid revealing personal and financial information via Internet, text messaging or phone.
