Writers’ group meeting at the Decatur library

Thursday, October 29, 2009

— A new writers group, Creators Café, will be meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Iva Jane Peek Library on the first Thursday of the month starting on Nov. 5.

The new group will focus on poetry and creative writing and will be led by published author Lisa Brown.

“The Creators Café is a new free writers group for all ages created for the community to come share their work, meet other local writers or learn about how to write poetry,” Brown said.

Some of the activities will include reading and writing of poetry, challenges, slam and stand up, contests and prizes and publication in Brown’s online newspaper, the Decatur Daily Dwellers.

Brown said she decided to form the group because there are no writers groups in the area.

“There is so much talent in Decatur,” she said.

Classes are free, but participants must have a library membership to attend. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent.
