— Starting on Sept. 11, the Lloyd Peterson Gym at Decatur High School will be open on Friday nights for students to play basketball, cheer their friends on or just hang out.

The new open-gym night is sponsored by the Decatur First Baptist Church. The gym will be open from 7 to 10 p.m., and there will be pick-up games of basketball supervised by an on-court facilitator.

Students must be in eighth grade or above to play, and all players are asked to wear non-marring basketball shoes.

The gym night will provide students with a place to socialize on Friday nights since there will not be any football games this fall, according to athletic director Bobby King.

King said the concession stand will be open, and he hopes to see a good turnout.
