Changes announced for Oct. 3 poker run

— DECATUR - The Christians in Action Group at the Decatur United Methodist Church has made some scheduling changes for the Oct. 3 Poker Run, planned to raise money for the Decatur CIA Food Bank.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church. Participants will be allowed to leave between 9 and 10 a.m. and must return by 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded and a chicken dinner served after the riders return.

The cost to participate is $25 per hand or $10 per rider without a poker hand. One can also purchase a chance for his or her nameto be drawn for one of the many items that have been donated, such as a La-Z-Boy chair.

All proceeds will go to the CIA Food Pantry to help those who are in need of food. There are at least 300 people in the Decatur area who are in need of assistance and a helping hand up, organizers said.

The pantry also accepts donations of canned goods for those who can't participate in the poker run but would like to make a contribution.

The CIA Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. It offers free nonperishable food to Decatur residents and is located at the United Methodist Church in Decatur.
