GENTRY — Representing the Gentry Lions Club, club president Leoti Cox presented a check from the club to Lions World Services for the Blind in Little Rock last month.

Cox presented the $850 check while visiting LWSB during Lions weekend, Aug. 21-22.

While there, Cox was privileged to see first-hand the work the club supports.

LWSB is an internationally recognized comprehensive adult rehabilitation center for the visually impaired. Over the past 62 years, the organization has helped more than 9,450 from all 50 states and 58 countries. The center offers individualized counseling, personal adjustment programs and 14 vocational programs to help those who are blind or have little vision regain and achieve lifelong independence.

In addition to supporting LWSB, the Gentry Lions Club, through its flag program and other fundraising events, helps individuals from the community who cannot afford it to obtain eye exams, eye glasses and other eye-related services.

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club currently meets in the Gentry School District's central office board room, on South Giles Street.
