— The fifth annual ATV Rodeo is set for June 12 on Bruce Bates’ property on Y-City Road south of Decatur, according to an announcement made Thursday during the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting.

The Parks and Recreation Committee used Bates property to hold the event in 2008, because italready has ATV courses in place. Although Bates moved away, he still owns the property and agreed to allow the committee to use it this year, Ike Owens reported.

Committee chairman Trip Lapham reported he approached an ATV dealer about setting up a booth at the event, and co-chairman Rick Tilly said he would contact several more dealers.

The committee made plans to sell concessions to help cover the costs of the event. They also discussed details including printing fliers and Tshirts, and arranging for portable bathrooms.

The rodeo will include competitions for all ages, such as barrel racing, the mud pit and a fire truck pull. There will also be games specifically for children such as an obstacle course and an egg and spoon race.

Registration for the ATV Rodeo will begin at9:30 a.m., and events will begin at 10:30 a.m. The committee set entree fees at $6 per event, or $15 for three events.

Parks and Recreation Committee meetings are usually scheduled for 6 p.m., the first Thursday of the month; however, the next Parks and Recreation Committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, so as not to interfere with other school and community events planned for that week.
