Egg hunt enjoyed by hundreds

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

— Hundreds of children lined up behind police tape on a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon at Gentry’s city park, waiting for that moment when they would be allowed to go find and pick up some of the hundreds of plastic Easter eggs distributed around the south side of the park.

When that moment came at 2 p.m., children ran and quicklyfilled their baskets with the eggs.

It was all over in a few minutes. Many children proudly showed baskets full of eggs. Others had only a few, but all received prizes.

The annual egg hunt was sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce. Assisting with the event this year was the Gentry High School National Honor Society. Children participating in the hunt were divided into age groups of3 years old and under, 4-5, 6-7, and 8-10.

Bicycles were awarded as a grand prize in each age category, with the bikes being provided by Arvest Bank, Community Physician’s Group, SWEPCO’s Flint Creek Power Plant and Gentry Family Dentistry.

Hundreds of other prizes were awarded as well, many of them snacks provided by McKee Foods.

Photos of bicycle winners are elsewhere in this issue.
