Lady Pioneers win one, lose one in conference play

— The Gentry Lady Pioneers hosted the Farmington Lady Cardinals in their first conference game on March 30.

With the Lady Cardinals loading the bases and scoring their lead-off batter, Gentry fans were on the edge of their seats in the first inning. Good defense held Farmington to one run in the first inning, only to score three more in the second with a home run by Chavis and two base hits.

In the bottom of the second, Cloie Sikes drew a walk, later to score on a passed ball. Josie Graves-Long and Courtney Folker singled, and a fielder’s choice put Sarah Hogan on base. A nice single up the middle by Kelcey Jech scored Folker and Hogan, closing the gap to 4-3.

That was as close as it was going to get as three more Farmington batters hit home runs to score six of their final 12 runs.

The final score was Farmington 12, Gentry 3.

Gentry’s junior varsity beat Farmington 6 to 4 with Sarah Hogan on the mound.

Gentry 4, Gravette 3

On Thursday evening,the Lady Pioneers played the Lady Lions in Gravette. A nice double up the middle by Josie Graves-Long set her up to score on a single by Mataya Snell. A single by Folker, followed by two walks scored Snell.

Marly Pierce began the fourth inning with a single and was brought home by Whitney Corter’s double.

In the fifth, Sikes doubled and then scored on Gentry’s fourth and final run on a double by Rindy Hudson.

The Lady Pioneer’s awesome defense, including a diving catch by center-fielder Hudson, a beautiful line-drive catch at second by Pierce. A heads-up catch in right field by Snell held the Lady Lions to three. It was a hard fought game for both teams, butended in favor of Gentry, with a final score of Gentry 4, Gravette 3.

Gentry’s JV team beat Gravette 8 to 7 with Hogan on the mound.

Lady Pioneer head coach Marian Kilgore was out last week with an injury. The team’s thoughts and best wishes are with her, and they are praying she has a speedy recovery.
