City council meeting postponed

Monday’s city council meeting was canceled and will possibly be rescheduled for next week. City council meetings are usually held at 6 p.m., on the second Monday of the month. Monday’s meeting was canceled because three city officials - the mayor, city recorder and city attorney - were unable to attend, according to city administrative assistant Kim Wilkins. She anticipated the meeting would be rescheduled for next Monday, but the date had not been confirmed with the mayor at press time.

Citywide Cleanup

Roll Off Service, Inc. will be picking up bulky waste at the curb with their regular trash pickup on April 22. For more information about what kind of waste will be picked up and what kind of waste is not allowed, call City Hall at 752-3912.

Falling Springs Cemetery Cleanup

The Falling Springs Cemetery will hold its annual cleanup day at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 17. Patrons of the cemetery are asked to bring tools and come help. A board meeting will follow the cleanup.

Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation Committee meetings will be held at 6 p.m., on the first Thursday of the month in the city council room. However, the next meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 5. All members are urged to attend, along with anyone who is interested in joining the committee. For more information, call 752-3912.

Wyatt Hopkins Memorial Poker Run

The first Wyatt Hopkins Memorial Poker Run will begin at 9 a.m., May 1, at the Decatur Fire Department. The route, which will be approximately 123 miles long, will end at the Decatur City Park with door prizes, food and entertainment. All proceeds go to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Traveling through Arkansas

Northside Elementary School will be hosting a “Traveling Through Arkansas” night from 6 to 8 p.m., May 6. The evening will feature a celebration of all things Arkansas, including entertainment, student art displays, and booths about Arkansas history, culture, local businesses and industries, natural resources, nature wildlife and more.

Decatur High School Prom

The junior and senior prom will be held from 8 p.m., until midnight April 24 at the Northside Elementary School Cafeteria. Tickets will be on sale for $35 until April 9.

Food Pantry

The Decatur food pantry is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. The pantry offers free nonperishable food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located at the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification showing they have a 72722 ZIP code. For more information, contact the Methodist Church at 752-3551.

NWA Riding Club play days set

The NWA Riding Club had its 2010 season opener of play-day rodeo on April 10, and will meet at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1, at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Ribbons are awarded nightly, with an awards banquet at the end of the season. A point system is in effect. There are five age classes, with events including poles, barrels, flags, speed and mutton busting. Memberships are $30 per year for a family. There is no charge for nightly events. The NWA Riding Club is a nonprofit, non-alcoholic and drug-free environment for families. For more information, call 752-3466 or 899-3259.
