Barbecue Chicken Dinner

The Gentry Senior Activity Center will be holding a barbecue chicken dinner from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, April 16. The menu includes chicken, baked beans, potato salad, roll, dessert and a drink - $5 for adults and $3 for children six and under. The event is a fund-raiser for the senior meal program. Tickets are on sale from any center member. For more information, call 736-0378.

Band Fund-raising Sale

The Gentry Marching Band and band boosters will hold a yard sale and car wash at Marvin’s Foods on Saturday, April 24, to raise money to help send students to summer band camp. The sale will include many “new” items donated by the Wal-Mart warehouse, as well as many personal donations. Falling Springs Cemetery Cleanup

The Falling Springs Cemetery will hold its annual cleanup day at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 17. Patrons of the cemetery are asked to bring tools and come help. A board meeting will follow the cleanup.

NWA Riding Club play days set

The NWA Riding Club had its 2010 season opener of play-day rodeo on April 10, and will meet at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1, at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Ribbons are awarded nightly, with an awards banquet at the end of the season. A point system is in effect. There are five age classes, with events including poles, barrels, flags, speed and mutton busting. Memberships are $30 per year for a family. There is no charge for nightly events. The NWA Riding Club is a non-profit, non-alcoholic and drug-free environment for families. For more information, call 752-3466 or 899-3259.

Bean Bag Challenge

The Gentry Senior Center is issuing a challenge to any groups or organizations that would like to enter the SAC bean bag baseball tournament from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Carl Gym. The Gentry Fire Department and the Gentry Police Department have accepted the challenge. Eight teams are needed. Spectators too may come out and root for their favorite team. The cost will be $3 per adult and $2 per student. Proceeds raised will be used for the senior meal program. For more information or to compete in the tournament, call Jackie Bader at 736-0378.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 27.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

GHS Band Boosters

The Gentry High School Band Boosters meet at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the high school band room.
