Lady Pioneers win two, lose one

Junior varsity team wins all three games last week

— The Lady Pioneers traveled to Berryville on April 12 and picked up another hard fought conference win over the Lady Bobcats.

Both teams were held scoreless until the fourth inning when Rindy Hudson doubled and was brought in on a sacrifice by Sarah Hogan.

The powerful Lady Bobcat defense held Gentry to one run until the top of the seventh, when Courtney Folker made it on base on an error and then came in on a single hit by Kelsey Jech. Whitney Corter also got on base in a fielder’s choice and scored on a nice double by Eryan Beck.

In the bottom of the seventh, Lady Bobcats Hendon and Warren both singled and scored on a Lady Pioneer error before a nice throw-down by catcher Josie Graves-Long to Marly Pierce at second base ended the game.

The final score was 3-2 Gentry. Eryan Beck batted four-for-four with four doubles.

In the junior-varsity game, the Lady Pioneers dominated and won15-5, with Sarah Hogan pitching.

Gentry 15 Decatur 0

Gentry hosted the Decatur Lady Bulldogs April 13 and celebrated its senior players with Senior Night.

The Lady Pioneers’ bats were hot. Everyone in the lineup hit, to score 15 forthe team. Gentry’s defense was equally strong and held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the three-inning game.

The Gentry junior-varsity girls also picked up a 5-to-3 win, with Sarah Hogan on the mound for Gentry.

Gentry 2 Prairie Grove 3

On Thursday, Gentry played Prairie Grove in Tiger territory.

The Lady Pioneers started strong with lead-off batter Marly Pierce singling, advancing on a sacrifice by Kelcey Jech and scoring.

The Lady Tigers answered with three hits and scored two runs to end the first inning 2-1 Prairie Grove.

Gentry tied it up again in the fourth when Courtney Folker reached base on an error to be brought home on a double hit by Josie Graves-Long.

Both teams put up impressive defenses to force the game into extra innings with a score of 2 to 2.

The Lady Pioneers loaded the bases before being shut down by a long fly ball caught by Prairie Grove’s left fielder Maggard.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lady Tiger A. Smith scored on a double hit by Sweigart to win the game 3 to 2.

The Lady Pioneers’ junior-varsity team won their third game of the week, 5-3, with Hogan pitching.
