GRAVETTE — Shiloh Christian coach Rod Washington knew his boys track team would start the day behind last Friday at the 4A-1 meet at Lion Field.
The Saints don’t usually score in field events or springs.
But Shiloh did what it does best - score in bunches in the middle-distance and distance races - to repeat as 4A-1 District and Field champs.
The Gravette girls also easily repeated behind 12 first-place finishes in their home stadium.
Shiloh’s Andrew Evans, Lucas Peiser, Mason Richards and Daniel Evans took the top four spots in the 3,200 - meter run.
Evans and Peiser also went 1-2 in the 1,600 and Peiser won the 800. The Saints placed three in the top four of both of those races.
Garrett Harper led four Saints with a win in the 400and the Saints won all three relays.
Washington said the Saints also got unexpected points. Harper won the 200 and Chase Richards won the 110 hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles.
Second-place Gravette boys jumped to an early lead by dominating the jumps.
The Lions won each of the jumps - Alex Lovell (high), Michael Croasdell (long) and Nathan Ortmann (triple). Croasdell - the boys’ high-point winner - and teammate Trey Tyner went one-two in the 100 and Croasdell took second in the 200.
Gentry was third behind wins by Nick Weeks (300 hurdles) and Caleb Ramsey (discus). Weeks also took third in the high jump and triple jump while Ramsey was second in the shot put. The Pioneers finished the night with a second-place finish in the 4 x 400 relay.
Deon Clay won the shotput for fourth-place Farmington.
Gravette coach Kevin Cole wasn’t too worried about the Lady Lions’ chances to repeat. Gravette only lost one senior from last year’s team and added several quality athletes.
Foreign exchange student Daisey Kusters (800, 1,600), Taylor Kean (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Shelby Newell (long jump, triple jump) had multiple wins for Gravette, which also won all three relays.
Kyndra Meeker (3,200), Haley House (100) and Mikki Pembleton (pole vault) also had wins.
Huntsville’s Martha Robinson earned high-point honors after placing in the top three in six individual events, including a win in the high jump.
Julie Rutherford had three second-place finishes to lead third-place Prairie Grove and Courtney Millsap won the 200 as Gentry finished fifth.
