— ◊ New sidewalks are being installed on the east Main Street on the Fred Johnson property.

◊About 30 members of the senior class left on their trip to New Orleans.

◊The City Council announced annual cleanup day will be held Saturday, May 7, according to Mayor Glenn Corley. The city cleaned up the city dump last week and replaced the traffic light at the intersection of Highways 71, 59 and 102.

◊The Dairy Bar announced it will be opening Saturday and offered everyone who stops by a Free Cone.

◊ A large half-page ad was printed in the newspaper with the question: “Were You Counted?” in the census. The only questions: List full name, position in household, sex, nationality, date of birth and if married, single, divorced, etc.

◊Special notice: “Americans from coast to coast and border to border will have an opportunity on May 3 to learn how they would receive emergency information and instructions by radio in case of an enemy attack.

◊A total of 265 persons from here and surrounding area received free chest x-rays when the mobile x-ray unit visited.
