Teams do well in track

— Both the junior and senior high track teams had a great season, according to coach Stan Ellis.

Junior high teams competed in the conference tournament on April 16, and the senior high teams competed on April 19.

The junior high girls scored especially well, finishing second in conference, Ellis said. Rachel Hardin, Bailey Bills, Hannah Ramsey, and Lacy Barrett all took first place in the tournament and Hardin scored second in overall points. Youa Vangalso scored a number of points for the team, Ellis said.

“The junior high girls performed really well. Almost everyone scored at the tournament,” he said.

The junior high boys also did well, finishing third in the conference tournament.

“They had a very solid night. They had quite a few good races,” Ellis said.

The senior high boys' team finished fourth in conference, and two members of the team - junior Josh Doud and senior Trent Arnold - will be competing at the state tournament on April 30.

Doud won first placein the pole vaulting event and Arnold won the 1600- meter race.

Chelsie Woodall, on the senior girls' team, won first place in the 100- and 300-meter hurdle events, earning a spot at the state tournament as well.

Woodall has made it to the state track meet for the last four years in a row and placed second in the state in the hurdles event last year. She also holds the conference record for the hurdles event, Ellis said.

“Overall, we had a really good year. The students on all the teams worked hard and did everything I asked ... I’m really proud of the kids,” he said.
