Annexation added to Gravette ballot

— After more than two years of preparatory work, the Gravette City Council on Monday evening gave an OK to an ordinance calling an election to annex several parcels of land into the city limits.

The ordinance, which was approved unanimously by the four council members present, outlines various tracts of land, some located on all sides of the city. Planning Commission chairman Mike von Ree said the measure would “help square-up the city’s boundaries.”

By approving the ordinance the city will proceed with having the measure placed on the ballot in November’s General Election. Voters, both inside the city and those outside the city limits whose properties are involved, will be allowed to vote on the measure,

Von Ree said planning for the proposal has involved the Gravette Planning Commission working with the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission which prepared the required property legal descriptions and an accompanying map which shows the properties.

The ordinance with its legal property descriptions will be published soon and a copy of the measure and the accompanying map will be available for public inspection at the city hall.

Von Ree also said that once the legalities are all in place, the property owners involved will be notified by mail with the specifics.

Council members Byron Warren, Chris Beller, Terry King and Brent Cannon all voted for the measure. Alderman Forrest White is out of town and Kurt Maddox, the other council member, recently resigned.

If voters approve the measure, it will take effect 30 days after the election results are certified.
