Church giving out school supplies

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

— The Gentry Victory Missionary Baptist Church will be passing out free school supplies from 8 a.m., until noon — or as long as supplies last — on Aug. 7.

This is the first year the church has held the program titled “Back to School Blessings,” according to Rob Hopkins. They will provide school supplies for students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade based on supply lists from area schools.

Hopkins said his church felt led to help local students with school supplies. Supplies can be expensive, Hopkins said. He recently talked to one parent who spent more than $50 on school supplies, and has yet to buy everything on the list.

“It’s just one of those deals that gets expensive and we felt like our church could give out a helping hand,” he said.

The Victory Missionary Baptist Church is located on East Main Street. After turning East at the Dollar General Store, it is the first church on the left. The Back to School Blessings event will be held in the family life center.
