— A well-known area author and feature writer will hold a book signing at the Gentry Public Library for her latest books, “The Boston Mountains: Lost in the Ozarks” and “Arkansas Meals and Memories: Lift Your Eyes to the Mountains.”

Velda Brotherton will be at the Gentry Public Library, at 1 p.m., Friday, August 13, with copies of her recent books.

She lives in Washington County, about 15 miles from where she was born, and these latest books are historical in nature and will resonate with area readers.

She writes a weekly Ozark historical column in the Elkins “White River Valley News.”

Brotherton conducted interviews for more than 20 years to compile historical data about the Arkansas Ozarks in the “Boston Mountains” volume. The “Arkansas Meals and Memories” contains 160 authentic Ozark recipes including an unusual wedding cake and a 200-yearold gingerbread recipe. Many use local products such as persimmons, May apples and elderberries.
