End-of-summer library event held

— The Gentry Public Library’s summer reading program concluded with an end-of-summer party at the McKee Swimming Pool on Sunday evening, with more than 150 in attendance.

The swimming party was held jointly with the Gentry First Baptist Church children’s summer program.

Swimming, inflatables, games, face painting, balloons, “goody bags,” and hot-dogs and drinks were on the evening’s agenda.

“The summer reading program was a success,” said Terri Guntharp, the program’s coordinator this year.

“I want to thank everyone for all their help and support,” Guntharp said, “and the children who participated, as well.”

Members of the community volunteered their time to come to the library and speak to the children on a variety of topics and show and demonstrate a wide range of activities of interest to the children. Weekly sessions included such activities as rock painting, science experiments and fishing lessons.

Guntharp said the blowout party was great, too, and said she looked forward to seeing the children at the library again next summer.

The summer reading program is held each summer at the Gentry Public Library.
