Senior center finishes cookbooks

— Cookbooks are now available at the Gentry Senior Activity Center.

The new cookbooks, entitled “Our favorite Recipes,” contain 350 locally contributed recipes — favorites of the SAC members and staff — and are on sale at the center for only $10.

Copies of the cookbook can also be obtained by contacting a SAC member.

“After months of gathering recipes, typing them on the computer, and days of selling ads, our cookbooks are finally here,” wrote SAC manager Jackie Bader in the center’s monthly newsletter. “We are very proud of them,” she wrote.

Bader also said she thought the books would sell out quickly.

Money raised from the sale of the cookbooks will go back into the meal program at the senior center.

Bader also told council members at the Aug. 2 council meeting that the center is looking to hire two people, 55 or older, for posts at the center. To be eligible for the positions, applicants cannot make more than $13,500 per year.

Among other regular activities at the center, CPR classes are scheduled for Aug. 16 and defensive driving classes, on Aug. 17. Computer classes are being held on Aug. 24 and 31. A birthday party pot-luck is set for Aug. 26.

A once-a-month dining out is planned for Aug. 19. The dining-out event for those 60 or over includes a trip to a restaurant for dinner. Each person is responsible for the cost of his or her own meal, and a $3 donation is suggested to help cover the cost of the van ride to the restaurant. The van leaves about 5 p.m. and returns by 7:30 p.m. Those planning to attend are asked to sign up prior to the event.

Van rides to and from the center and to other places and events are also available through the center.
