GENTRY — City council members on Aug. 2 approved the low bid of DECCO Contractors-Paving, Inc., of Rogers, to complete a street repair project approved by the council at its July meeting.
Two contractors submitted bids on the project to repair, chip and seal, and repave portions of Pine, Benton, Smith, Crawford, Giles, Arkansas, Little and Byers Streets, McKee Drive and Pioneer Lane. DECCO’s bid was $140,948.90.
A bid from Hutchens Construction Company in Springdale was $170.755. APAC of Arkansas, located in Fayetteville, requested plans but did not submit a bid by the Aug. 2 deadline.
With information supplied by Ron Homeyer of Civil Engineering, Inc., of Siloam Springs, the council approved the proposed plan for improvements to the city’s streets and roadways for the current year at the July meeting.
The plan, estimated at a cost of just over $223,000, was based on street conditions, drainage and money available. The city has $250,000 available for the street repairs.
The project bids came in considerably lower than anticipated.
Homeyer anticipated work could begin as soon as four weeks after the contract is awarded and be done before winter weather becomes a factor.
