A resident at 776 Midway called police on Aug. 14 after finding a box with approximately $400 in quarters and one dollar bills missing from her roommate’s closet. Also missing from the home was another $50 in cash and a gold chain with an eagle emblem valued at $400, according to a police report.

The residents said that someone had always been at home except for on Aug. 7, when they went to buy groceries and returned late that evening. The residents said they last saw the metal box sometime during the week of Aug. 2 through Aug. 6. They told the police they didn’t know who would have taken the money or jewelry from their home.

Police were unable to find any signs of forced entry to the home, such as tool marks on the door, but the residents said the bedroom windows were broken and unable to be locked. As of Monday no suspects had been located, but the incident is still under investigation by the Decatur Police Department.
