Fire interrupts service at Gravette AG Church

— Gravette fire department was called to the First Assembly of God Church in Gravette Sunday evening when a small fire was discovered on a table of craft items in one of the church classrooms.

Visiting pastor Sherman Robinson was just concluding the evening service when a church member discovered the blaze.

Several dozen church members quickly vacated the church sanctuary and others were able to wheel the table and contents outside the building, but not before smoke filled the room and filtered into other nearby rooms.

Church pastor Jack Deaton said cause of the blaze was not known but noted it was not electrical in nature. The nearby wall was scorched but did not catch fire because of the quick work of the members.

Water damage was minimal in the room and no other damage from the fire was reported as firemen searched the building to determine if the blaze had spread.

Fire departments from nearby towns were alerted but their service was not needed.

No injuries were reported, Deaton said.
