Gentry picks up wins in lopsided matches

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Nonleague play between Gentry and Decatur last Tuesday was anything but play between well-matched teams, with the Gentry girls winning 57-8 and the Gentry boys finishing with a 61-4 final score.

The Bulldogs picked up two in the first quarter and another two in the second but were completely scoreless in the second half.

The Pioneers had 23 points in the first quarter, another 15 in the second and another 23 in the second half.

Justin Bryant and Justin Stewart were Gentry’s high scorers with 14 and 12 points respectively. Other players who normally have high numbers played little in the contest.

On the girls’ side, Decatur picked up four points in the first quarter and two points each in the second and fourth quarters.

The Lady Pioneers, however, ran away with the game, picking up 21 points in the first, 17 in the second, 14 in the third and another 5 in the final quarter.

High scorers were Terra Jones, with 11, and Kaylin Cripps with 10.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, no other varsity games were played last week.

The teams are scheduled to play in the NWA Invitational tournament this week.

No Gravette scores were available.
