Gravette responds to flue fire

— Gravette Fire Department Monday night responded to a flue fire at a residence on Rader Lane about two miles northeast of Gravette.

Fire Chief David Smith said no damage was reported.

It was noted that flue fires become more common especially during late fall and early winter months when wood heater use is increased.

Inspecting and cleaning flues should be an annual project to determine if any damage has occurred in the flue structure and to remove creosote and soot buildup.

Nests built by chimney swifts during the past summer may also be present and should be eliminated.
