Decatur agrees to pay employee $1,000 for alleged EEOC violations

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

— Mayor Bill Montgomery reported at Monday’s city council meeting that an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission suit had been brought against the city of Decatur.

The announcement came after a short executive session.

The city has negotiated a settlement with the employee who brought the suit for $1,000, butthe settlement does not state that the city did anything wrong or that there were any EEOC violations, Montgomery said.

“But to lay this to rest, we agreed to pay the employee $1,000,” he said.

Legal council will be doing EEOC training with the city’s department heads in the near future, Montgomery said.

The council passed a motion to approve the $1,000 payment.
