Pierce achieves National Board Certification

— High school math teacher Jennifer Pierce was honored by Gentry School District superintendent Randy Barrett and the Gentry School Board for pursuing excellence in education and obtaining her National Board Certification.

In a prepared statement, read before the board on Monday, Barrett said, “Jennifer Pierce contracted with the district as a math teacher in August 2006. Ms. Pierce received her bachelor of science in education at Pittsburg State University and her master’s at Oklahoma State University. She came to the district with two years of experience in education to teach AP calculus, transitional math, geometryand pre-AP calculus and trigonometry.

“She has now completed six years in education and in the four years with Gentry Public Schools, she has proven herself to be an example for her students and her peers as she continues to educate and challenge herself.

“In April of 2009, Ms. Pierce received her English as a Second Language endorsement and just recently succeeded in becoming a National Board Certified Educator. This is a huge accomplishment. Ms. Pierce is the first Gentry employee to become National Board Certified.

“According to both her current principal and previous principal, she is technologically savvy and has demonstrated this by utilizing all technology avenues provided to her.She is organized, dependable and committed to her job and her students. She has become a class sponsor and currently sponsors the National Honor Society at GHS.”
