Brown, Martin resign from Iva Jane Peek Public Library board

— The resignations of Virginia Brown and Normen Martin from the Iva Jane Peek Public Library Board were announced at the Dec. 13 city council meeting.

Brown has served as president of the library board since it was founded.

In a memo dated Nov. 30, Brown states: “I do not feel I have the time necessary to devote to this position. The library needs and deserves more than I can contribute at this time. I am, however, grateful for the opportunity I had helping to get the library from an idea to a reality.”

“Virginia was head of that thing and made it work,” said Linda Martin.

“I want the minutes to reflect that I do appreciate Virginia very much,” said Mayor Bill Montgomery.

Martin informed the library board in an e-mail of his decision to resign.

“It has been an honor to serve on the Iva Jane Peek Public Library Board these many years, however, as of this date, 11-09-10, I am resigning from the board,” he wrote.

Montgomery commented that the library has seen quite a bit of usage and said he hopes it will be open five days a week next year.

Bid Opening for city vehicles

In other business, Montgomery opened bids for four surplus city vehicles during the Dec. 13 meeting.

The council voted to move the vehicles into surplus inventory last month and allow the public to bid on them.

Austin Migliori won the bid for the 1988 Ford Ranger. There were four bids ranging from $400 to $800.

Jim King won the bid for the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria. King placed the sole bid for $1,179.

Billie Struthers won the bid for the 1994 GMC Sonoma. There were two bids ranging from $555 to $580. Ronald Smith won the bid for the 1994 GM four-wheel-drive truck as the sole bidder for $1,000.
