Chamber plans upcoming events

— The annual Chamber of Commerce Easter egg hunt is set for April 3 - the day before Easter Sunday.

The egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. in Veterans Park, Chamber of Commerce president Royce Johnson said at Monday’s meeting. Chamber members will be packing 400-500 plastic eggs with candy for the event.

Stacy Brooks asked fire Chief David Flynt to bring a fire truck with a loudspeaker system so that children and parents will be better able to hear instructions during the event.

In other business, Pat Austin reported the search for an entertainer for the Decatur Barbecue on Aug. 6 is in progress. Several possibilities are currently being explored, she said. The next step in planning the Barbecue will be placing food orders in May or June, Chamber of Commerce members said.

Flynt reported that the Decatur Fire Department will begin distributingfliers about the Wyatt Hopkins Memorial Poker Run, planned for May 1, this week. Flynt said his department is spreading the word through its Facebook page and has already contacted several motorcycle shops and clubs and had the poker run added to their schedules of events.

Adam McGee reported that he had been contacted by Matt Price, an account representative for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals baseball team, about having another Decatur night at a Naturals game this season. The chamber planned a Decatur nightlast summer, but canceled it because of a lack of interest.

Jean Johnson pointed out that even if there were not a lot of Decatur residents attending the game, it would still be a good opportunity to advertise the Decatur Barbecue to other people in the area.

Brooks suggested inviting the Naturals representative to speak at the next Chamber of Commerce meeting and explain the details of the event.

The Chamber of Commerce will meet again at 5:30 p.m., March 1, in the Gallery Cafe.
