Decatur students place in poster contest

— Three Decatur youth placed at the district level in the National Youth Poster Contest sponsored by the Beaver Lake Power Squadron.

Taylor Thompson, placed first in northwest Arkansas and third in the district in the 7 to 8 year-old age group; Sterling Yang, 8, finished second in the 7 to 8 year-old age group; and GerJunior Vang also placed second in the district for the 12 to 14 year-old age group.

Other Northwest Arkansas winners include Deseree Enderlend, who was third in the 7 to 8 year-old category.

In the 9 to 11 age group, Bailey Annen, 11, of Rogers was first, Mikayla, 9, of Bella Vista was second; and Emily Xiog Nuchi, 9, of Gravette was third.

In the 12 to 14 year-old age group, Arianna Trejo, 12,was second; and Maria Molena,12, was third.

This year’s contest attracted 119 entries in Northwest Arkansas, a state record for the annual boating poster contest, chairperson Jan Muetzel said.

The yearly contest is held each spring in three age groups; 7 to 8, 9 to 11, and 12 to 14. Entrants are judged in Rogers by members of the Power Squadron. Winning posters go to district, andwinners of district go on to the national level. Posters winning at the national level are used in the national safe boating campaign. This year’s winner can be seen at the spring boat show.
