End Of School Extended To June Seventh

— Fast forward to the end of school this term.

Gravette school has missed seven days so far this year, through Tuesday of this week, due to weather conditions.

This will result in the last day ofschool, originally scheduled May 26, being moved forward to Monday, June 7, according to Dr. Andrea Kelly, Superintendent of Schools.

Teacher in-service days which were to be held May27-28 will be held June 8 and 9.

Dr. Kelly emphasized that these dates are subject to change if additional days are lost due to weather or other conditions.

Neither spring break, M arch 22-26, nor Graduation, May 22, are being changed.

School districts throughout the area are all struggling with how to make uplost days in order to meet state and federally mandated requirements.

Besides extending the school year, districts have the option of holding classes on Saturdays and Memorial Day or canceling spring breaks. These would be the most unpopular, the Superintendent noted. “The decision will be made in the next few weeks.”

Adding an hour to a day’s classroom schedule or revising professional development days may also receive consideration.

“We still have six or seven more weeks of winter,” Dr. Kelly noted in reminding that the above announced changes are subject to further change.

The district had no snow days built into this year’s schedulewhichstatedayslost would be added after May 27.
