Letters To The Editor

— Dear Editor,

This is concerning the closing of the polling locations in Benton County, especially the location in Sulphur Springs.

The Election Commissioners say they are looking at polls with less than 500 voters. The county has 16 with less, but only four are to be consolidated now. Some of the other locations have fewer voters than Sulphur Springs. The Commissioners say this is a learning experience for them. E. J. Miller said the decision to close the locations was best for Benton County. HOW?? He also said the world is made up of inconveniences. That is true but why create more when unnecessary? He also said that it costs $3,000 to open a polling location but when questioned if the county would save that much for each one that was closed he conceded that it would be much less.

A thank you to the businesses in Sulphur Springs who allowed petitions to be placed in their place of business. To those who took time to sign those petitions and those who called the Election Commissioner’s office with their opinions, to Lil and Maurine for your time and help and to Dodie for his editorial supporting Sulphur Springs and Maysville.

We tried to keep the polling location in Sulphur Springs but cannot buck the system when minds are already made up.
