— Council Meetings

City council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of each month in the council room at city hall and are open to the public. The Jan. 11 council meeting was canceled and rescheduled for Jan. 18. For more information, call 752-3912.

Colors Day

Decatur High School Colors Day festivities are planned for Jan. 22. Coronation ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m., followed by senior high boys’ and girls’ basketball games against Eureka Springs.

Stop Smoking Seminar

Due to weather, the Stop Smoking Breathe Free class at the Total Life Community Center south of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 59 has been rescheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14. For more information or to make reservations, please call 479-233-9119.

Assembly of God Van Service

Van service is available to children and adults who need transportation to Sunday morning and evening church services and Wednesday evening services at the Assembly of God Church in Decatur. For more information, contact Stacy Brooks at 790-7171.

Spaghetti Supper

A spaghetti supper is planned for 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Siloam Springs Armory, 1333 East Main Street. The supper is in support of local troops and their families. The spaghetti dinner also includes green beans, bread, drink and a dessert. The cost is $5 per person. Dinners may be eat-in or carry-out.

Creators Cafe

Creators Cafe, a creative writing group, meets from 5-6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month in the Iva Jane Peek Library. Activities include reading and writing poetry, discussions of famous poets and their work, challenges, slam and stand up, and contests and prizes. Town Hall Meetings

The Decatur School District holds regular town hall meetings in place of school board meetings at 7 p.m., the third Monday of the month, in the high school cafeteria.

Recycling Services Available

Western Recycling invites area residents and businesses to take advantage of its 24-7 drop-off location on Dawn Hill Road in Gentry, just west of the Flint Creek Cemetery. Recyclables can also be dropped in one of the many recycling containers around the community. Western Recycling takes newspapers, shredded paper, paper, junk mail, cardboard, plastic bottles, plastic bags (including store bags) aluminum, iron and tin. VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7 p.m. during the winter months. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Decatur Library

Decatur library hours are 3:30 to 7 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m., on Wednesdays.

Food Pantry

The Decatur food pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free nonperishable food to Decatur residents and is located at the United Methodist Church in Decatur.

Participants need to bring identification showing they have a 72722 zip code. For more information, contact David Cook at 752-3838 or the Methodist Church at 752-3551.

Gentry Senior Activity Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown;

and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.
